At Johnson-Minai Design Lab, we bring science to life through visual storytelling. Founded at the intersection of research and design, our studio creates compelling, accurate, and memorable visuals for scientists, publishers, and institutions.
Brett Johnson combines a background in experimental condensed matter physics with a passion for visual communication. After completing his PhD in 2004, he worked in research in Australia and overseas, producing over 200 scientific articles. Beyond research, Brett explores music, colour and composition through a personal fine art practice, and enjoys translating complex science into clear, engaging visuals.
Yukari Minai brings a keen sense of style and attention to detail. While her background is in Japanese literature, she contributes to project review, design suggestions, and studio administration, helping to ensure that our work communicates clearly and effectively.
Together, we believe that clarity and beauty go hand in hand. Whether for high-impact journals, grant proposals, or conference presentations, we focus on making science stand out, be understood, and be remembered.
